Electronic Arts and Valve, the award-winning studio behind the blockbuster franchises Half-Life and Counter-Strike, announced today at EA's Summer Showcase 06 event that Half-Life 2: Episode 2 will ship simultaneously on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The console versions will include all the previously released Half-Life 2 content.
Back in April, Valve Software announced the development of "future game releases" for the Xbox 360 and that the upcoming titles will be powered by a customized version of Source (the technology that powered Valve’s Half-Life 2).
Unfortunately, it seems that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions won't include Team Fortress 2, which will be part of the PC combo.
We'll have more on Half-Life 2 Episode 2 for Xbox 360 soon.
Activision and Spidey house Treyarch prove that there are still World War II battles yet to be fought on the video game screen, as gamespot got their first look at this imposing shooter sequel.
Late last year, Call of Duty 2 emerged as one of the most accomplished launch titles on the Xbox 360--but then again, it was no slouch on the PC either. But less than a year later, how is it that Activision is already prepping a third entry in the wildly popular World War II series for release this fall? It did it by shifting production from series creator Infinity Ward to Treyarch, the LA-based development house that Spider-Man built, and a company that already cut its teeth on the Call of Duty franchise with the console-only Big Red One.
But what we've seen so far of Call of Duty 3 indicates its scope will far exceed that of Treyarch's previous effort with Big Red One. So many World War II games have focused on the famous D-Day landing at Normandy, but few (if any) have ever examined the weeks-long campaign that followed as the Allies pushed their way deeper into France in an attempt to strike at the heart of Hitler's empire. COD3's single-player campaign will center on this lengthy and complex military action, a collaboration between American, British, Canadian, and Polish forces--and of course, you'll get to play as members of all four throughout the game.
The basic action in Call of Duty 3 will naturally fall in line with what you've seen in past games--you'll run and gun your way through missions set in a variety of European locales, and the story will jump from one group of soldiers to the next as you take on different roles and complete objectives that will advance the Allied cause.
In the demo mission we saw, American forces were moving into the nearly obliterated French village of Saint Lo, storming a hill covered with ruined buildings occupied by German soldiers. It was obvious from this short demo that the scale of COD3's levels has been significantly expanded over those of the last game--the battlefield was wider and more active than before, with a greater number of friendly troops rushing in on all sides of the player. In fact, in addition to a simple variety of paths, Treyarch says it wants to give players multiple ways to address a particular situation. So, for example, in one mission, you might be tasked with neutralizing a machine-gun nest, so you'll be able to either snipe, use explosives, or choose trench warfare to complete this task. The choice will presumably be at the player's discretion.
Microsoft and the Forza 2 team have released 4 wallpapers, you can put these on a USB Thumbdrive and use these as your background on the Xbox 360, or you can just use them on your home computer. Whatever way you decide to use them, they will look great with stunning photography by Jimmy Sykes.
A couple of months ago, Microsoft and Turn 10 studios announced their sponsorship of Risi Competizione, a professional race team currently running a Ferrari 430GT in the American Le Mans Series this year. As development on Forza Motorsport 2 shifts into top gear this summer and fall, we're looking to draw inspiration, and get our kicks around the track with Risi. To ruffle up a little fanfare for their big race at the New England Grand Prix this weekend at Limerock Park, we've decked out our website with a new banner (look!) and have put together a batch of official Forza Motorsport 2 wallpapers for your consumption. Also, check back soon for updates from Limerock as your friendly neighborhood community manager (that's me) will be hanging out with the Risi drivers and pitcrew. Special thanks to Risi's official photographer, Jimmy Sykes, for all images.
Go Risi and the F430GT!

Remember all the hype Sony brought when they Said Ubi Soft was creating Assassin's Creed as a PS3 exclusive? Remember all of those rumors from E3 that Assassin's creed Demo was actually running on an Xbox 360 and not a PS3 (Remember, UbiSoft did not confirm nor deny it).
Which console UbiSoft is developing this title for isn’t quite clear either. At the Tokyo Game Show last September is was said to be a PS3 title, at the Game Developers conference in March it was said to be a PS3 and Xbox 360 title, Then at E3 a PS3 exclusive. Which one is it?
Well a leaked internal Memo from UbiSoft for an upcoming game list classified Assassin's Creed as a multi-platform game. UbiSoft officially the company denies this, although sources close to UbiSoft said the game will definitely be on Xbox 360.
Perhaps UbiSoft sold the rights to Sony, to ANNOUNCE, that it is a Sony Exclusive- Remember, now a days exclusive means "only on this console....for a short time.”, unless the game in question is published by 1st party.
Looks like someone down under (Hobbs?) has said that the much anticipated Xbox Live Arcade title Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting has gotten a release date -- at least down under. According to Xbox Australia, the game is set to hit July 30th. Damn them Aussie's!
As for a US Release, according to Xbox US the game came out two months ago (March 2006), talk about vaporware. Maybe Microsoft should update every once in awhile.
Right from the official Saintsrow.com website they have announced the demo will be available August 1st on Marketplace and on Official Xbox Magazine.....
"Gamers will be able to get their hands on a single player demo from Saints Row at the beginning of August. The demo is slated to release through Xbox Live Marketplace on August 1st and it will also be available on the Official Xbox Magazine Cover DVD"
Note: Even tho its officially announced for August 1st this doesn't mean Microsoft will release it on this date. "Like the Prey Demo June 22nd official date" (Read sjohn's "Prey Demo Delayed for 360" News article for details)
